Video: What is the 2019 Estate Tax?

What is the Federal and Georgia estate tax this year? Siedentopf Law has the answer (and the good news!) in our latest video.
Video Transcript: Hi, I’m attorney Sarah Siedentopf. I’m an estate planning and probate attorney in Atlanta, Georgia. Now that we’re into 2019 you might be wondering what the 2019 estate tax is. Federally, the 2019 estate tax is $11.4 million per person, which is also $22.8 million per couple. What this means is that if your estate is less than $11.4 million or $22.8M when you pass away, you will not owe a federal estate tax. What about Georgia? Will you owe Georgia estate tax? The answer to that is no, Georgia does not have an estate tax. So yay Georgia, no estate tax, and many of us will be well below the current federal estate tax limit and will not owe federal estate taxes either. However, estate tax is not the only thing that you’re avoiding when you do estate planning, so don’t forget to do estate planning regardless of whether you’re going to have to pay a federal state tax. If you’ve got any questions about this, feel free to let me know. Thanks.
