Think creating a will is difficult? We make it easy. I’m Sarah Siedentopf, I’m an estate planning attorney in Atlanta, Georgia. If you’ve been putting off a will, because you think it might be difficult and time consuming, let’s talk about our process, because we make it quick and easy.
One of the first things that we do is have you fill out an intake form. And you’re tensing up, ’cause you’re thinking about all of those account numbers. No account numbers. You’ll be giving us your full name, your address, your email address, your phone number, your kids’ information.
Then you’ll be telling us which pieces of land you own, which houses, real property, so some addresses, names of any businesses you own. Who do you want to be your trustee? So again, full name, that address, that email address, that phone number, contact information.
And then who should be your executor, who should be your power of attorney? A list of the trusted people in your life. It’s relatively fast and easy. The biggest thing is gonna be looking up people’s addresses, texting them if you don’t have them on hand. After you filled that out, we have a meeting. It’s a design meeting. It’s a 50-minute phone or Zoom where you talk to me and you tell me what do you want to happen. I have some questions to guide you if you need a little help, but you tell me what you want to happen, and I write up the plan to make it happen. So at the end of that meeting between the intake form and the information that you give me there, I’m ready to draft your documents.
Usually, along with a will, we might be doing a power of attorney, we might be doing an advance directive for healthcare. We can cover all of that stuff during this meeting. That’s the biggest lift. It’s a quick intake form and 50 minutes of your time. After that, we do the hard stuff. We draft the documents, send them to you for review. You look at them, you get a chart to go with them that gives you the outline of exactly what’s happening in the total plan, so that you can recognize what’s going on in the documents.
If you’ve got questions, if you’ve got changes, you let us know. If you don’t, you let us know that, and we’re on to scheduling the signing. This can be very quick and easy, there is no reason to put it off. We would love to hear from you if this is something that you have decided is a priority for you right now that we need to get done. That’s something that we would love to help with. Thanks.
